Aquesta novel.la travessa totes les seves altres obres les quals, al seu torn, s\u2019hi reflecteixen, s\u2019hi refracten i adquireixen d\u2019aquesta manera sentits suplementaris. Bulg\u00e0kov va escriure El Mestre i Margarita sense cap esperan\u00e7a de veure l\u2019obra publicada, tot i que, de manera paradoxal, la novel\u00b7la obre dins la literatura russa del seu temps un espai de gran llibertat al mateix moment en qu\u00e8, a la Uni\u00f3 Sovi\u00e8tica, art i literatura perden la seva autonomia. Per a Bulg\u00e0kov, redu\u00eft a treballs de pura superviv\u00e8ncia, i que any rera any veu com les seves obres s\u00f3n retirades de l\u2019escena, aquesta novel\u00b7la \u00e9s un desafiament, la prova que no ha deixat de ser un escriptor.
